Find Your True Purpose - Ignite Your True Fight.

Another shooting in Atlanta, with eight dead and one injured. The shooter, now in custody, had a history of deep-seated issues. Beyond the tragedy itself, this event raises questions: Did the businesses affected take the steps needed to safeguard their staff and establish protocols for prevention and recovery? Unfortunately, the answer is often no.

I recently spoke to a group on this topic and was asked a common question: “Should firearms be banned to prevent gun violence?” My response was simple—banning firearms won’t stop those with intent to harm. The reality is that no measure will fully eliminate violence, but there are ways to better protect ourselves and our communities.

Understanding Purpose as a Catalyst for Safety Violence may be rampant in society, but there’s a deeper reason for this discussion—purpose. Purpose isn’t just about personal ambition; it’s the foundation for self-preservation and the drive to fight when circumstances demand it. When we know our purpose, we have something to protect, a reason to act, and the resolve to stay safe.

Why Purpose Matters for Personal Safety

Living with purpose gives us the instinct to protect what matters most. When you have a clear sense of purpose, threats become clearer, and your motivation to be aware of surroundings is heightened. Knowing what you stand for and what you would fight for adds layers of meaning and focus to life.

Ask Yourself
What is your purpose? Is it family, your career, or a calling to make a positive impact? Finding your true purpose adds clarity and resilience, especially in the face of adversity.

Steps to Discover and Embrace Your Purpose

Finding your purpose is a journey that requires self-reflection and awareness. Here are a few steps to help you connect with your purpose:

  1. Identify What Drives You
Think about what you’re passionate about. What lights a fire inside you? Make a list of things that give you energy and motivation, and consider what each one truly means to you.

  2. Reflect on Past Experiences
Consider the moments in your life when you felt most fulfilled. What were you doing? Who were you with? Often, these experiences provide clues to what you value deeply.

  3. Visualize Your Ideal Life
Imagine your ideal life 10 or 20 years from now. Who are you? What impact are you making? Visualizing the future can help reveal a purpose that resonates with your core values.

  4. Seek Feedback from Trusted Sources
Friends, family, and mentors often see strengths and potential in us that we might overlook. Ask those you trust for feedback, and take note of recurring themes.

Purpose as a Source of Strength

When we know our purpose, we become more resilient, adaptable, and mentally prepared. It’s this purpose that fuels us to fight back in times of danger and empowers us to make difficult decisions with clarity.

The Role of Purpose in Situational Awareness When you have a purpose, you instinctively protect it. Purpose-driven awareness is a powerful tool for personal safety—it helps you stay alert to potential risks and act with intention when needed. Being consciously vigilant isn’t about living in fear; it’s about being ready to protect what matters.

  • Stay Aware: Situational awareness begins with staying present and attentive, both mentally and physically.

  • Trust Your Instincts: If something feels off, pay attention to that feeling. Our instincts often pick up on details that our minds overlook.

  • Be Proactive: Don’t wait for danger to happen. Learn about self-defense and strategies that allow you to act decisively and protect yourself and those you care about.
