Connecticut Pistol Permit Course

A Connecticut Pistol Permit is required by law to carry and purchase handguns in the state of Connecticut.

Prepare to Act offers firearm training programs to law abiding citizens in a safe, fun and friendly environment. There is no experience necessary to participate in this course that is taught by one of our own NRA Certified Instructors. Our main goal is to produce capable, qualified, and safe students. However, our course size is limited to ensure that you will have a successful and positive experience. The training demands of this course are outlined below.

Connecticut Pistol Permit/NRA Basic Pistol Course

This is a one day safety training course that meets and exceeds the State of Connecticut requirement for pistol permit application. The course fee is $125.00 per person and includes the use of our firearms, ammunition, eye and ear protection and all training materials. This course consists of six hours of classroom training involving safe gun handling and basic firearms discussion. The student should ask questions and also expect to handle real handguns throughout the day. Opportunity will be available for gaining familiarity with both revolver and semi-automatic pistols. The classroom portion also includes a multiple choice, true/false exam. Each student will be required to be involved in live fire experience following the required classroom hours.

Course Requirements:

Note: You must be 21 years of age to obtain a State of Connecticut Pistol Permit. however you’re allowed to take the course at a younger age to increase your safety awareness around handguns.

  • 18 years of age or older or 16 with written permission from parents
  • You must have a clean criminal background
  • Pre-registration and course payment are required to reserve a seat

A Basic Pistol Shooting Student materials package will be supplied to each student at the start of the course.

Private Instruction by Appointment
Private classes are available and can be scheduled at a mutually agreed time for those who wish to keep their training exclusive. Private NRA classes will consist of all that is provided in a typical group setting except will be devoted completely to the individual or individual group that is attending. Also, a private NRA course is a great forum to alleviate the anxiety of being in a formal classroom setting amongst one's peers. The Cost of this course is $250.00 for one person, $150 for the second, $125 for the third and fourth. This instruction in handgun knowledge and skill is tailored to the student's personal background and interests.

*Cancellations made 10 or more days before the class will result in no penalty. Cancellations that are made 5-9 days prior to the date of the class will result in a 50% refund of the initial deposit. Cancellations made 1-4 days prior to the class or on the day of the class will not be given a refund of the deposit. Refunds will be issued only if the seat is refilled or if due to a serious documented medical emergency. Deposits of $60.00 are required at the time of sign up in order to reserve a spot in the class.
